Hi,

I am trying to weigh up to either go for a M135i or 125D. I am looking at a M135i that is a 13 plate for £19.5k with 20k miles on it, got professional nav and HK speakers as extras. I plan to put 40K miles on it in 2 years and sell when its about 5 years old with 60K miles on the clock. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how much the M135i will be worth when I come to sell as a rough idea?

I can obviously pay less for a 125D now, so just trying to weigh it up.

Thanks for any helpful advice in advance.

I'm not sure of depreciation but 40k miles in two years you will save an awful lot in fuel costs with the 125D over the M135i. Just not as much fun

It's a good question Alan, because as most people know, on reasonably new/expensive cars, fuel costs are not the main concern, depreciation is.

The 125d would save you £3k in fuel costs over the 2 years doing 40k miles - compared to an M135i - however if it devalues a lot more you havent saved a penny. (......& you'd have spent 2 years driving a much less exciting car)

Imo there is no chance you would save 1500 a year doing 20k miles. From what ive read the 125d manages between 40-45mpg. In my M135i im averaging 35 so only 10-20% less which will never equate to that larger saving. I went for the M135i over a diesel counterpart even though I do high miles as the residuals are higher and its a hell of alot more fun! :)

Thanks guys, I have thrown the idea of having a 125d out the door now, weighing up the positives and negatives. I would only end up in 6 months buying a M135i. Just got to find a 3yr old 3dr M135i auto, run it for a year or two and then jump on the TRL wagon for a new one.

I do about 15k per annum in my M135i.

The fuel costs incurred don't bother especially with the prices being so low at the moment. But having to fill up virtually twice a week is starting to does bug me.

At least when you do fill up you don't need gloves to avoid that sticky, stinky diseasil pump!

Looks like fuel prices will drop again soon !!!! :)

Never thought I'd see it under £1/ltr and its 99.7 at the local Morrisons !!!! (Unleaded and D)

maybe 89.9p soon ..... :spotman:

Fuel prices are great at the moment.

It does bug me how tiny the fuel tank is though you can visibly see the needle moving when pushing on.
