Jussi,

I am pretty sure there is an antenna in the rear window already. The antenna amplifier picks the antenna with the best signal and amplifies the signal to the head unit.

Try unscrewing the top antenna to see how you will go with just one antenna....

Furyan, I just used the E90 shark fin cover over the original base antennae.
Hi,

Like this idea, how did you fit the E90 cover? ie is it a "clip" on job or did you have to fiddle it?

Thanks

Furyan, Given you live in Sydney, happy to help you do this if you're set to change it to shark fin.

The change will require to purchase a shark fin cover for the E91 and have it painted to body colour. To install the shark fin cover you need to first remove the base for the rod antennae, you can actually remove the cover which will make the original base fit inside the shark fin cover. To fit the shark fin cover you can either use sealastic or screw the cover.

Gawako syd, are you saying if I buy a shark fin cover from the E91 and remove the base of the shark fin it will fit over my existing base with the rod removed of course ?

Oh I see.
Is this possible to do by removing the two rear plugs holding the internal roof lining uo at the back of the car, and then squeezing your hands down the gap?
Or do ya have to remove the internal roof lining completely?

stevie, You can, but you also need to remove the left and right C column trims and the rear left and right roof handles Then use a socket wrench just use your hand to hold the 12mm socket and no need to use the lever as the nut is only hand tight. Good luck. BTW from memory there are four torx screw to remove the cover from the rod base and also given that you are removing the rod just replace it with something to work as an antennae and adhere it over the three prong were the rod socket touches. You'll know what I'm talking about once you remove the cover. Good luck.

I have had a look at an 06 E91 (3 Series Tourer).
I measured the Shark Fin aerial cover and I think it would fit over the existing E87 base with the rod removed - no mods
That is assuming the cover is totally open at the bottom.

Does anyone on this forum not work for BMW main dealer and could order one in just to try?
A bit cheeky asking - I know - but a lot of people might be interested.
