Hi, I realise there a few similar threads on this subject, but they don't contain the information I'm after.

I currently have an Eisenmann Sport exhaust on my 130. It's a quality bit of kit, a touch louder than standard, with nice, larger than standard, stainless steel tips. However, I would like a bit more noise. My wife and I really only drive the car at weekends and for fun trips away - European road trips, camping etc, so don't use the car for a tedious daily commute and would like the car to be a bit more of an event when we do take it out. I'm not so enamoured with the intake, I know this will increase in-car noise but I'd prefer increased volume from the exhaust.

I've narrowed down my options to below:

1. Fit a BMWP exhaust and sell on the Eisenmann.
2. Have a 'y-pipe' made up to delete the mid silencer, and use this with the Eisenmann.
3. Aquire a 135i backbox and use this with the 'y-pipe' mid silencer delete.

My questions are:

Is anyone running a 'y-pipe' with the standard exhaust? Does this make much of an improved sound from standard? And if there is a volume increase is this a 'decent sound' or just an increased drone?? I'm aware fitting one to my exhaust will sound different, but this info will help in my decision!

Would a 135i 'y-pipe' be a direct fit to the Eisenmann?

The 135i 'y-pipes' don't seem to pop up on the forum or ebay very often. Would anyone have a rough idea of cost if I were to have one made up by a quality exhaust outfit?

Thanks

HI,

This video tells you what you need to know about the res delete on the standard exhaust, then compares it to a res delete with a 135i backbox:

This one is a BMWP Y pipe from a 135i (same effect as above just the BMWP y pipe version) with a 135i backbox and gives you an idea of what it sounds like in car:

This video is exterior footage of a res delete and 135i backbox:

Then this is the BMWP exhaust with a res delete:

Personally in your position I would get a y pipe fitted with the eisenman. From my research, I'm pretty confident in saying the BMWP option is the loudest out there without doing a res delete, so if you want more noise you need to do a res delete.

I'm going to get a y pipe delete done and the 135i back box fitted. I've got all the bits in my garage ready to be fitted, just need to get it done.

I bought this y pipe -
Which is well made. But you might be better off getting an exhaust sop to make one for you. When I looked people were paying £120 ish for a custom made y pipe.

I may even get a couple more bits made up which mean that I may start making kits that fit - but this is a while away yet.

The BMWP y pipe will need to be fitted with a 135i backbox, as there is a mating flange on the 135i backbox and BMWP y pipe. You'd be better getting one made up that using this - unless fitting a 135I backbox.

Many thanks for the vids and info Dom. I've emailed a couple of exhaust fabricators for y-pipe fabrication and fitting quotes. I think that cost will determine whether I go for the BMWP box + standard mid silencer or go with the Eisenmann + y-pipe.

As the Eisenmann is a little louder than standard I'm guessing the above two systems set-ups will be similar in volume.

However, if a 135i y-pipe comes up for sale soon I will bite the bullet and get that and wait for the 135i backbox.

Yeah, to give you an idea, the y pipe was £35 quid, the backbox cost me £80, ring doughnut was £10, and bolts were £10.

The guy quoted me £160 to fit it to the car, which included making 2 pipes that join the mids to the y pipe, moving the exhaust hangers on the backbox and getting it all set up.

Didn't think was too bad.

Not too bad at all really.

Your guess at the price for y-pipe fabrication was spot on. I've been quoted £120 for the pipe (in stainless steel) and fitting. I also found this vid, which is what my set up should be. Sounds alright!
