Sorry to constantly see these threads guys.

I know that E81/87/91 control stalks work with my car (81) however, there's some stalks out of an E90 for sale without the automatic wipers and a reasonable price.

My question is can the wiper control stalks be swapped over? As I've seen that you can buy individual stalks so stands to reason that surely swapping one out for the other would work? Or is it something to do with the assembly as a whole, in which case I'll continue searching.

My thought was to change the stalks over from my 81 which is the wiper stalk I need, to the '90 assembly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm appalled by the title of your post.... That is not what cruise control was designed for and is quite frankly dangerous to you and others around you (including the one you are intimately engaging with) and is illegal.

Sadly not, I can't help in afraid. Although lots of people have fitted retro cruise control so I'm sure someone will be along shortly.

I can't answer your question directly but I can tell you that I did look at swapping the cruise stalk onto my existing steering wheel slip ring.

Now from what I looked at with the parts in front of me it didn't seem like an impossibility but in the end I didn't do it.

I would just wait out the correct part, this is a question that's been floating about for a while now some people say you can some people say you can't.

Personally I think it's possible, but given how cheap it is ro buy a full unit and how much hassle it looked to change it over I'd just wait it out.

Sorry I can be much help, but feel free if its cheap to give it a go and answer this question that's been floating around for ages!

Thanks bud, yeah can't decide what her to take the risk because I don't want to buy it and then end up with the wrong part and it not working.

Surprised no one has actually done it, wonder if it would need coding or anything?

To be fair, I've got a slip ring here. Maybe I should just try and find a cruise thing and see if I can get it to work.

Would be very interested if you ever decide to do it mate, can't decide what to do with this one though because I don't wanna pay for it then know I can't do it if you get me, but I've already put a bid in that's been accepted just speaking to the guy now!

Pretty sure I've read somewhere that you can't, which makes it a fairly expensive mod on my old GTI you could do something similar to what you suggest meaning cruise control only cost about £30

I'm sure I read on here that a guy tried it and the auto wipers worked.. Just the light didn't work when the button was pressed which seemed like a coding issue.. Have a good search I'm sure it was here..
