Annoying indicators

Morning Guys

I've had a frustrating week with the indicator warning light…

Background.

1. 2 weeks ago, in the morning, the bulb warning indicator came on - checked all bulbs, all working ok. In the afternoon warning has gone
2. Following day warning appears again and I notice the indicators are working fast
3. Booked it into an independent BMW specialist. Pay the £60 for him to tell me he doesn't know the problem, but it could be 'FAM' module (£250).
4. I found the ccid code off the stalk - 119 (front indicator), so I have both of them replaced - still warning light/fast indicators
5. Following morning, as I go for petrol, going around a roundabout the indicators for both sides go from fast to normal. Restarting after petrol and the warning light has gone (hurray all fixed!)
6. In the afternoon, I move the car forward to wash it and the warning light/fast indicators are back…
7. Problem persists

Any clues / tests I can run to solve the problem?

Cheers
Mark

Hi again

Thanks for the replies.

All bulbs are illuminated - none are blown - and I've replaced the 2 front indicators just in case.
I havent got any WD40 in the car, but will try later when I get home from work.

The bulb housing looks solid and clean though - no corrosion

Cross fingers for the WD40...

I've got exactly the same problem. The car spent all last week in an airport car park. When I returned to the car on Sunday morning the warning light for 'external lights' came on when I started the car. I checked all the external lights including things like number plate lamps and fog lights and all were OK. This morning I checked the code to see which light and it said 'front right indicator'. However, it is definitely working OK. I cleaned the contacts. Same problem. I changed the bulb for a new one even though the old one was working and the filament looked to be perfect. Same problem - light working fine but warning light still coming on (plus the rapidly flashing indicators). It's a facelift 118d.

Seems to be a common fault..
I tried WD40 last night - it didnt make any difference.

However, this morning, I put the key in but didnt start the engine and tried the indicators. Both worked fine without rapid flashing. Ive started the engine, driven to work and all is fine again - no warning/fast flashing.
Well see what happens later on the way home.

Hi guys,

Glad I found this forum/topic, I have the exact same fast flashing indicator problem on a 118d (07) and its driving me nuts!

All worked fine, then one day 3 weeks ago the left/right indicators started to flash fast and the dash bulb warning light came on, (hazards flash at the normal rate).

I've checked every bulb on the car and all work as they should (not dim or flickering).

I took it to a local garage who could find no fault other than to say it sounds like its a bulb on the way out.

1 week later took it to a supposed independant BMW garage who changed all indicator bulbs and could find no fault.

I'm now at the point of taking it to a BMW main dealer at £75+vat for a diagnostic check :(

All help to sort this in advance is most welcome :celebrate:

By chance, is this problem is a common BMW fault :?

Sadly got this today. Indicators flashing rapidly so immediately thought there is a blown bulb. However, all 6 indicators flash when indicating left or right (fast)and also with hazard warning (normal speed).

Did a search and found this thread. Not so easy to fix it seems.

Anyone got any further with this?

Same problems here

Mrs's 118d in at the dealers tomorrow for a new lighting module, covered thankfully by warranty.

800 + errors recorded on the car as a result of this failure.

I had mine replaced a year ago also, for a different fault, reverse lights came on every time I put the brakes on.

Regards,
Rich.

Today they are working normal again. Touch wood they will stay that way.

Might just check the bulbs to be sure and connect the bluefin for error codes.
