Alloy wheel help

I've read the FAQ on aftermarket wheel sizes and have a few questions about style and fitment, so here's my "will it fit?!" thread!

M140i shadow edition, mineral grey, has the MPBBK with orange calipers and the maxton kit with matching orange pinstripe.

I've narrowed it down to the or in terms of style. I like that the 666m has a little more to it in terms of the design, but I'm stepping up to 19" and with the MPBBK in orange, the 763m could display those discs/calipers better. Pics and input welcome!

The next problem is size and where to buy them...

Looking at the FAQ thread it seems a good, staggered setup is 8.5J ET40 - 245/30/19 and 9.0J ET45 - 255/30/19 (could I get away with 265/30/19?). I've also checked on and it looks ok.

Finding somewhere that supplies the right sizes has also proven hard! I've checked CMWheels, AutoStyling and VMR Wheels. Can anyone suggest somewhere I could get the 666m in the sizes I want, preferably gloss black to match the car?

It seems that a square setup would be easier to source and doesn't look too bad on the fitment.

BMW 18" Sizes
7.5J x 18 ET45 - 225/40/18
8.0J x 18 ET52 - 245/35/18

Likely 19" Sizes
8.5J ET40 - 245/30/19
8.5J ET40 - 245/30/19

I could go slightly wider on the rear tyre

8.5J ET40 - 255/30/19

You have to be very careful with 'will they fit', they only show the clearance/dimensions for the alloy wheel, not the tyre.

The diagram does show an illustration of the tyre though, as a rough guideline. If the image shows the tyre sticking out much further than previously get a bit nervous.

I'd want ET45 for a 255mm rear personally.

Thanks for the reply.

The larger offset pulls the wheel into the arch rather than push it out (as I understand), so is the concern it might scrub on the arch itself?

I guess the next question then is, will this be worth trying to do? I'm thinking of wider rears for more rubber on the ground,is it enough to be worth it? The car is stage 2 and the gearbox stage 3, I was thinking about better traction.

There's also some value to a square setup as all 4 wheels/tyres are the same, they can be rotated. Does the square setup I mentioned fit?

Nice car.
I've seen it driving round town, sound really good. Especially as it whizzed past the New Inn! FYI, I live just around the corner from yourself!

What exhaust system do you have fitted?
Hey, thanks!

That's a good road past that pub, steep downhill so you can just leave it in 2nd and let it burble on the way down 🤣

It's a BCS turbo-back system with a 100CPI sports cat, DDE and the M Performance Exhaust.

So VMR got back to me:

"We do not produce 8.5x19 ET45 with 5x120 PCD, this offset is only for 5x112. We have:
8.5x19 ET43 and 9.5x19 ET50 staggered
8.5x19 ET43 squared"

I do like the sound of the staggered setup for more rubber at the back as I mentioned earlier, but I'm concerned about the fitment.

Here's the WillItFit[1] link, which has some pretty big increases! "Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 17.1mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 21.1mm more than before."

Is that too much of an increase? The car is on the adaptive suspension and stock components, not lowered or anything.

No, they're wrong, ass clowns. That would look like a penny farthing, the fronts would be almost 20mm bigger on diameter.

With the recommended set-up, the fronts would only be about 5mm smaller. Not noticeable, and the correct radius for the car.

What about 235/35 front and 255/30 rear they're asking?
Why are they asking you? Aren't they the tyre experts? :?

225/35/19 and 255/30/19 are a perfect diameter match, but a bit stretched (zero rim protection).
235/35/19 are about 12mm bigger than 255/30's.
245/30/19 are about 5mm smaller than 255/30's.

I have 801s with the staggeted setup VMR mention. Could only fit 225 on the 8.5" front as the tyre was extremely close to the strut. Tyres I have are 4S's. 255 fits easily on the rear 9.5"
It's not unusual to need a 3mm spacer to fit wider tyres to 8.5" ET45 wheels.

If you're not melting your current 225 fronts, never parallel park, don't suffer understeer, and don't mind the stretched look, 225/35 will be absolutely fine.

Personally I can't tick any of those boxes!
Oversteer is usually the problem! Parking and things I'm less worried about, always careful there.

I might just have to try and fit the 245/30 and see if they will work without the spacers.
