Driving to work this morning somebody decided they would overtake in a stupid place and after completely misjudging it swiped in on me. I went on the verge to avoid the accident and hit a kerb side on, of course they drove off completely fine!!!!!!

So the damage is that the front wheel and tire is knackered, the back wheel has a small scuff but the tire has a cut in the side wall. BMW Accident Services have been awesome, car is being collected and a 48 courtesy rental is on it's way. Not entirely sure what is going to happen after that but will see how things go.

I don't think it will be worth going through insurance but I was wondering how much it will be for a new wheel (standard M135i alloy) from BMW. Also I guess the tires will have to be supplied and fitted by BMW so there will be a bit of a premium but at 6 months old I am happy for the car to get the proper love.

I think a dash cam will now go on the wish list as nowt I can do about it.

If it were me paying for the replacements, I'm not sure I'd see the sense in paying BMW prices for the wheels and tyres?

If you've whacked both wheels that hard, it will be worth checking the tracking and geometry too.

I replaced one of mine a few months back, which my local (and excellent) try garage sourced from me within their network. If you have a reputable tyre place it's worth giving them a call - mine came down a few hundred miles from Scotland but was perfect and fully checked over for me. Think it cost me about £150.

there's loads on ebay too, but obviously you are taking your chances there.

I think a new wheel is about £350, having said that I just looked and BMW list it from £413, but you can buy a genuine one for about £350

Interesting.... when i phoned a number of BMW specialists looking for a replacement, they weren't able to beat the BMW price as they only place they could source new ones was direct from BMW themselves!
