Ive recently purchased a 120d and have a set of AP Coilovers on there way.

Wheel choice Id like to get Rota grids however I want a staggered fitment, I haven't had a chance to measure up yet but wondered if anyone has any experience with 9.5j rear wheels.

The set would be as follows:

Fronts - 18" 8.5J ET30 with 225/40/18 Tyres

Rears - 18" 9.5J ET35 with 225/40/18 Tyres

Any help would be hugely appreciated,

If it can't happen, id rather know before I splash out !

Cheers all :)

Neither are going to fit nicely, with those widths you're going to need something more like ET40 front and ET50 rear, approx.

If its going to cause me hassle with rubbing and needing things rolled then I won't bother, but I wouldn't want just 8.5J rota all round as you don't get enough concave out of them.

Thanks for the heads up!

dj_troopa runs Rota's on his Coupe but not 100% sure what his fitment is .
He's on 8.5 ET40 and 9.5" ET45, and still gets rubbing & contact despite a bit of stretch.

Hi :) Yup that's correct what Marco said. Copied and pasted this from another topic i wrote in the other day...

Front:
8.5x19
ET40
225/35/19

Rear:
9.5x19
ET45
255/30/19

I'm lowered on the Eibach Pro spring kit.

It rubs on the front if i hit a deep dip in the road or if i come off a speed bump a little quicker than usual. I always drive nicely over bumps anyway but now i have to go a teeny bit slower and it's fine. The rear has only ever rubbed having 2 people in the back, again going through a deep dip or coming off a bump but is fine when you slow it down. I can't remember the last time i heard it rub but rarely happens as i know how to drive it so it doesn't.

I could easily run more stretch and i have no problem with stretch as all my cars had it at some point. I'm trying to keep this car as 'legit' as i can and stick to proper sized tyres for good wide grip. A little bit of camber all around and i'll be fine.

I'll be running more stretch than you on my 9.5" Zito 935 rears, 215/40 :). Currently run 215/35 on my 9" Ispiri CSR4 rears.

Thanks for the replies you've all been really helpful,

Since writing this I've found another set of Rotas the MXR model, these can be bought as 8.5 et45 and 9.5 et45. Loving the look of these as you don't come across them often, but with the right tyre choice it sounds like they could be the better option? It's just finding them in the finish I like which could be an issue! Flat black with gloss lip :p

Yup, they sound like far less trouble!

I'd probably go for a 225 front and 245 rear. Pretty flush but should clear.

Front being ET45 should fit that little bit better than my ET40. I'd say 5-10mm more in will sort my clearance.

245 is a good tyre for the rear and will give it that extra space i need. I like having wide track so i'm going to camber a teeny bit all around.

PS. i filled up a full tank of diesel yesterday, i had 1 front passenger with me who doesn't weigh more than 8 stones tbh, and it rubbed a bit more than usual on the back coming off bumps. Just gotta slow it down and there's no rubbing.

Typically the MXR in the colour I want are out of stock everywhere until the summer of this year.... back to the drawing board...

Bola b1s could be a safe alternative, but theres nothing like the real thing :(

You could buy any old colour then get them repainted... Not the ideal solution but would get you your wheels....

I know your pain. I ideally wanted Rota Grids in bronze but were out of stock until January. I bought my wheels in December and couldn't wait that long! I went for Steel Grey which goes perfectly with my Space Grey E82. My plan was to get these re-done in bronze before summer shows but i love Steel Grey now.

I thought about Bola's too but i cant do reps. And yes i know Rota Grid is a rep of the Volk Racing TE37 wheel (which costs ££££) but Rota is THE best rep you will find of this wheel. They're so good people don't class them as reps.

If you can hold out for 9.5 on the rear then do it. Personally i think they look poo in 8.5 all around as the wheel is too flat. Silly high offsets for our cars means not much concave as we'd like unfortunately.

I need 3 tyres within the next month really anyway so I'm looking at purchasing fairly quick, the only ones I can get hold of in staggered fitment are silver which as my car is a very light grey/blue tinge, Im not sure silver wheels would really give a good enough look ... :/ id love to hold out but I can't see any point if I'm gonna spunk out on 3 run flats :(

I needed 2 new tyres on my 261m wheels. What's the best way to resolve this? Buy new tyres? NO - Buy new wheels and non runflat tyres! I'm a sucker for a 'great excuse' :lol2:

Silver looks good on anything and i think it will really refresh the cars look. Do you know the colour name for your car? I'm quite good with photoshop :)
