Quick one for anyone running aftermarket HID headlights just wonder what particular k rating bulbs you are using ? fitted 6 k into my own 35 watt ballasts a while back but would prefer the bulb color to be a bit whiter , anyone here running 5 k bulbs comment regards the actual color output ?

K = Kelvin. This is the temperature colour of the light that the bulbs emit.

So different temperatures produce different colours. A typical OEM colour is 4300K. The newer ones are closer to 5000K. 4300K is slightly yellow whereas 5000K has a tint of blue that gives it a distinct white look. However this actually produces less useable light, particularly in poor conditions. So manufacturers have had to bump the power up to compensate.

The thing to note with aftermarket HID kits is that the colour temperature is not accurate. Because a lot of people think that the higher the colour temperature, the more light they will get, manufacturers have increased the temperature rating for better sales. So you could buy a 6000K bulb but it is actually in fact only 4300K or 5000K.

6000k can look a bit blue, I'd be after 5000k colour myself.

Some people associate the blue hue with HID's, but infact the blue-ness usually means OEM bulbs that are on their way out! I think it's quite funny when people pick 8,000 or 10,000 to make their car look like it's old and knackered?!

Okay thanks for that, funny the 5k looks more yellow than white from the reflection photo ? Will try a set off 5k bulbs for all they costs just trying to get the pure white look like you get from some no aftermarket non hid bulbs.

Anything over 5k looks silly ? the vast majority off " aftermarket " hid bulbs choosen / sold are 6k ask any major retailer off them so they all look silly ? so you think a full beam back possibly causing an accident in itself is the answer ?? :?

Yep see where your are coming from but have to say not all hid lights within reflector lenses cause problems, the vast majority don't. but yes some do big time but have to say in all my years driving have yet to be put in a position off nearly having a crash because off blinding hid lights but again don't see how your full beam will cure the problem :? again in my opinon it could indeed cause a problem.

Range Rovers are the worst HIDS, the only good thing about brexit is that UK law will apply and HIDS will be illegal.
