Hmmm, I've only ever seen HUD once and I'm sure the focal point of the display was quite far in front of the car so to see it you didn't need to focus near and far. I can't see that thing being any better than looking at the normal dials.

Yeh, the only decent one I've seen so far is the factory fitted BMW in the larger cars... where it is projected onto the windscreen and hidden in the dash.. guess these will be come more and more common in future tho

Just wired one into my car. 20 quid eBay one and it works fantastically well. Yes really. Ill put some pics of my install.
Apart from revs and speed I have water temp switched on so its nice to know when the car is ready for ragging.

They are all over ebay, £20-25 gets you one. Most seem to be made by excelvan if you look at what is being sold. You need to fix a reflective clear patch which is included with the unit to the inside of the windscreen where the unit is going to project to otherwise the image is rubbish (from what I have seen on youtube)

Yep would be great to see it in action if you have a video of it working, how accurate is it compared to the actual speedo reading ? Only ask as have read there is an adjustment on some to match speedo / digital readout ? Does it need tilted to project on the windscreen ? And did you manage to fit the obd plug neatly enough to extend the cable up to the unit ?there is not much space in front off the obd port connector so would probably fit the plug and still try have the little plastic cover on the port opening just making a slot big enough for the power cable.

I see what you guys mean now:

e.g. this one " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

looks nice and small.. I much prefer this idea to the version that displays on a clear display that is part of the device.. but would also like to know how good these really are and if anyone manages to do a nice clean cable installation from the OBDII port to the dash on an F20/F21...

Part of me thinks that's pretty cool but a bigger part of me thinks it's a pile of shyte.

Now if you could have boost, steering angle, G, oil temp and pressure, at least it would be more useful.

This is the generic ebay one.

cheers for that - display itself once projected looks quite decent to be fair.. but not keen on the look of the reflective panel on the windscreen, especially from outside - also would be a bit worried that it would obscure or distort normal viewing..

I take it you realise that the actual hud unit is very small in size and very thin. Would certainly not look out off place on the dash.

yeh the smaller version that projects on the windscreen looks ok size wise for the dash.. if only it would work without that big reflective sticker on the windscreen... can anyone that has installed one give us some feedback about it?
