My mate has a pair of near new bridgestone runflats size 205/45/17 that he's aid I can have
My standard fronts are 205/50/17 so will the 205/45/17 be ok to fit

They'll technically fit, but will be something like 3.3% smaller diameter (20mm). More than I'd usually recommend.
