Morning

So i have this issue. I have a 2008 123D with just over 106k on the clock. It had the timing chain enhancement done in May last year. All was good with the world however, over time, i have started to get a noise on start up. It lasts for about 3-4 seconds then the engine quietens down.
It went into Stephen James on Wednesday and was in for a day and a half for diagnosis. Anyway, it came back yesterday with the report saying it was the alternator belt & Tensioner that was making the noise. Anyway, anyone that got some mechanical noddle knows this is a simple thing to test. Slip the belt off and start it up. So i did this, and the noise was still there, so its not that then. Great for BMW diagnosis!

I'm still 90% sure that this is coming from the rear of the engine as is my mechanic friend, and sounds like the chains, or tensioners of which BMW have said it isn't although i am a little dubious as it seems that hadn't performed the simple test with the belt above. So this leaves me with the issue. Its not getting any worse, and runs a little longer on very cold days but doesnt sound right. Its just VERY rattly, then quietens down, sort of like its something thats filling up with oil on start up.

I'm going to seek a second opinion from another dealer however, they are both Stephen James in my area!

Anyone got some ideas/clues?
