I appreciate this has been covered numerous times, and whilst I've seen lots of pics, I'm just trying to gauge what it sounds like - not much different from what I gather. So I'm trying to source a video or sound clip with one fitted to any of the 1er diesels. Has anybody uploaded one previously or able just to take a quick clip?

Exactly what I'm hoping for....certainly don't want it chugging any louder!
99% sure the 123d doesn't even have a back box so fitting the 135i one will actually reduce noise. There is a silencer further forward and the exhaust is just a pipe running from the centre box.

If you just want the twin tip look then get your local shop to weld you on some tips for about £50 and be done with it!

Why a 135i exhaust? What are the benefits?

Interesting.

Just wondering as someone else mentioned why not get tips added on to your existing setup? If the 135i exhaust makes it quieter, surely this will reduce flow?

Just personal preference really, I know the 135i box fits ok and looks good. Had tips fitted previously and wasn't happy with the outcome (my own poor choice of tip). As for the flow, can't imagine there will be any issue, as it's designed for an increased flow already compared with the 123d. Certainly haven't read of any issues.....

Exactly this, and just so it's an oem part and keeps the car looking standard.
Because OEM is the main thing that the majority of members on here stick to     .

Did you actually read my post?

Fitting a 135i backbox onto your 123d, is a bit of a silly thing to do. You'd be better off fitting the BMWP exhaust because by the time an exhaust centre has fabricated all the stuff to fit the 135i backbox it would probably be cheaper to have bought the bmwp item in the fist place.

The 123d has the silencer located in the middle of the car, so you'd either have to have this removed and a new custom exhaust pipe made to the rear of the car to then fit the 135i backbox.

Or if you just want the twin tip look, get a local shop to make you a twin tip system.

You need to be clear what you're trying to achieve because the 135i backbox offers no benefits (not even cost by the time it's been fitted properly) over the alternatives if it's noise or looks you're after.

Yes, but at the time I didn't see anything that needed a reply

It's purely for aesthetic purposes. But I can't see how it would be more expensive than a bmwp, as the figures seem to work out at approx. £130ish all in for a 135i fitted with the valve on the box welded open.

And at least I know the 135i fits nicely in the cut out, so I know what outcome looks wise I will be getting. I wouldn't want to choose a welded tip only for it to look horrendous, because you can never get a proper idea of what it will look like until it's too late.

Fitting the 135i exhaust definitely seems to be quite a 'marmite' mod!
