Hi guys. If anyone can offer any advice on an intermittent No Crank No Start problem i'd be really grateful. When hot my car will not crank. The problem is intermittent. It appears that it happen only after a long drive. The car drive fine. I took it to a BMW dealership that did a wiring repair on the lower battery terminals at the rear underside of the car. This was unsuccessful as the problem occurred again 2 days later. The car seems to start after a period (perhaps of cool-down hence i'm erring on the side of a hot start problem).

I have the fault codes, just wondering if this is a dying DDE (ECU) as I doubt there are issues with this many components of the car all at once after it had none just weeks prior.

The fault codes are here:

If anyone has any thoughts or could recommend someone who knows about this kind of issue please let me know.

Many Thanks

did you tried to apply light punch behind glovebox (the main fusebox location) ?
there is well known(loss of contact) issue with faulty main fusebox connector, which can temporary remediated if fusebox will be touched a little

Ah i see. No I had not tried it. I did replace the big black relay on the fuse box though. I will be taking it to a BMW specialist this week to see what they can do. I don't like he idea of the car being unreliable so I will mention this to them.

Just an update for the benefit of the folks that may have this issue or potentially could have it in the future now that its been solved. It was a bad PDC module playing havoc with the DDE preventing the car from starting at certain times. A cheap replacement can be sourced from eBay or a new one from BMW. Crazy to think that a Parking distance sensor module could ever prevent a car from cranking but that is what it was.

Somewhat embarrassed that I let Sytner BMW Oldbury replace the rear underside battery terminals because they said they looked corroded and were the cause of the problem.

Terminals corroding is a known thing for the E8x and would have caused the issues you were having. No embarrassment needed there – you probably just saved yourself some hassle down the line 👍
You have no idea what they charged me to do it and I'd prefer not to say. They actually sold me the job on a guarantee that it was the fix for the problem. I took the car back to them when the issue persisted and they wanted a further 3 hours of diagnosis at £186 per hour just to diagnose the issue with no guarantee that they could get to the bottom of it after that time. Took the car to my local independent BMW specialist and they had it sorted in 40 minutes.

Its a whole other story, however I'm going to be very very circumspect about going to a Sytner dealership (or any other main dealership) for repairs again. The levels of misleading information and lies that they told were simply astonishing. It was so bad I decided to take it to the motoring ombudsman as I really feel that I have a case after everything that happened.
