Hello, I´m quite new here, so just quickly about me - I own an E87 120d 2005 (with auto lights and xenons) and since purchase I´ve done so far these services by myself: replaced battery, oil change (engine, box, diff.), filter change (cabine, fuel, oil) and swapped the drivers mirror glass due its delamination.

However, I´ve noticed a few things:
- the cabin filter icon simply dissapeared in the OBC menu (as I wanted to reset its service interval)
- I´ve got this yellow service icon on start up (no faults on a common obd diagnosis) - Why I can´t set up my Personal Profile such as the Locking preferences, Turn signals, Light settings (i.e. daytime running lights)

Thanks for help
Kamil

I wonder if your car is simply too old for personal preferences? Some of the early cars had slightly different software, different methods of getting to the hidden background menu, etc.

Your car will always show up one service icon or another, whichever needs doing next (purely as a heads-up).

It´s quite nonsense to have a car with auto xenon headlights but without possibility of setting the DRL as a default state.

Is there any way, this package of options could be coded in?
Yes, you need a later FRM. DRL's is only possible on a FRM2 and above I believe. There are people that know a lot more about it than me, try messaging a guy called Wibbles.

Anything you want is possible on these cars, most of the stuff is interchangeable and there are some solid coding experts on this forum that can help you get it all working.

Great, thanks for response.

Just to be sure what does the FRM stands for? Is it firmware?
Is it feasible for myself - through the standard bmw cable?

It´s weird, while scrolling throught the obc menu, the "slider" on the display jumps over a few steps and I think these are the options I´m actually missing.

The FRM is a module in the footwell (I assume it's there as it's known as the foot well module).

The later modules will run things like DRL's, welcome lights, coming home lights etc.

For example on m LE, I have welcome lights (fogs and halos) on for 90 seconds, DRL's which are just the front halos. I've coded the angel eyes to be full brightness on all settings so they don't dim when the lights come on etc.

So back to your question you will need to buy new hardware, then code it to your car. This is about where my expertise ends I'm afraid and if you want instructions on how to actually code it to the car if you buy the bits then you need to speak to Wibbles.

Either way I'd drop him a PM. He's a really helpful guy, and will point you in the right direction as there are different versions of FRM2 and FRM 3 depending on the options on the car, when it as build etc. I don't know enough about this to advise you what you need I'm afraid.

He should reply. If the message is still in your outbox then it means he hasn't read it.

I´ve done front and rear brake pads.
Changed the rear pad wear sensor and left the fron pad wear sensor as it´s been just slightly "touched", but it´s been.
I´m still getting the yellow service display on start up. However in the service menu (and reset service menu) there is no front brake pads display, just the rear ones, which I´ve obviously reset.
Scrolling through the service-info menu, there is a yellow car on a jack with no mileage displayed.

Could this be related to the front brake pad wear sensor?
Is it normal, there is a service info for rear brake pads and no info for front brake pads?

So fitted a new one and there still is no front brake pad service menu, which is kind of a weird at least I think.
Still getting the yellow car on a ramp with ____ mileage displayed.

I´ve disconnected the battery for a while and it did not help either.
It´s a nono to have rear brake pads service menu and no front brake pads, isn´t it?

I've posted about this before.

Basically as soon as the sensors touch the discs you can't reset anything or else you just end up with what you've got here. A new sensor is a direct short to ground and the computer will only reset when it sees this.

To trick the car what you need to do is short the plug on the wiring loom for both front and rear sensors and then reset the service light (with the plug shorted). Then you need to do a key cycle after you then have mileage displayed before plugging the old sensors back in (ignition off). This will then adjust the CBS. I'll dig up my how to when I am on my PC.

It's easy enough to do, and if you've got an old sensor it's even easier.

Have you driven the car since you fitted the new front sensor? If not, you only need to short the rear sensor which you can do quite easily with the old sensor. Just connect the two wires together and plug it in at the rear, with the new front connected, reset the service light and you're good to go.

It simply does not work in my case.
There is no service menu for front pads displayed, yellow car on a ramp with no mileage in the service menu reset. On start up the yellow car says "service" with some mileage and date (corresponds with MOT). This however has been setup to some two year interval.

Did you use a genuine BMW sensor? We've had all kinds of problems after fitting pattern parts.
