Hi there

Purchased a 118i Sport F20 (62 plate) a month ago and its tramlining on uneven roads. Any imperfection in the road and the steering is all over the place and have to grasp wheel with two hands. Ive have the front bushes replaced and 4 wheel KDS but still the same. I have Bridgestone Potenza RE050AI RFT and read they are pretty awful.

Should I try some new tyres? I have tried increasing / decreasing psi but no dramatic change. Any tips on what PSI would be best this time of year? Or what tyres I could get which wouldn't tramline?

I have a 12 month AUC with BMW but after replacing the bushes and doing KDS alignment, they dont feel anything is wrong with the car, when there definitely is.

any help appreciated thanks in advance

Ditch the runflats!

It's not even runflats you need to ditch, just the Bridgestone RE050. They are truly awful.

Previous owner of my old 330 put a pair on the front and it sniffed out any uneven surface- it was horrible.
I went to non-runflats and it was transformed.

The Bridgestone S001s runflats (I think that's what they are anyway) I have on my 125 aren't bad at all though. I drove a courtesy car with the other OEM tyre (Goodyears?) and I felt it was a bit better but the new generation of Bridgestone runflats are a vast improvement on the RE050.

It's a pity you have the Sport (I assume with 17s) as I have a pair of front 18in S001s I could have sold you to try for a fair bit less outlay than a new set.

Hi thanks for your comments. Tyre size is 225/45R17. The dealership I purchased the car from has offered to swap the wheels/tyres for another car same model etc they have in stock. Only issue is they are 90 miles away, but they will cover fuel costs. What rft should I got for which will reduce the tramlining significantly?

Something else I did notice was the tyres on the car have speed rating of v when they should be w. I have advised insurance company and bmw assure me it's fine to have v as they go up to 149 mph and car won't go that fast.

Ok so I have decided to purchase 4 new runflats to replace the dreadful ones I have. Which would be best ? Am looking at the Conti Sport Contact 5. Would these be alot better and minimize tramlining? Or any other recommendations? thanks

Surely it's a better idea to take up the dealers offer of swapping the wheels/tyres (assuming they are a different brand/ model)?

Then it's only costing you the time it takes to travel the 90miles to the dealer.

I don't believe you have to go as far as ditching runflats altogether though- as said previously, I (and many others) have runflats with none of the problems you are experiencing.

I would prefer to stick with runflats actually.

Taking back to the dealership adds alot of time and would also need to wait for them to find a set of tyres/wheels.

The dealership has agreed to cover the costs of 2 new tyres, so I was going to replace the front ones with Conti Sport Contact 5 SSR to see if any vast improvement with the tramlining.

I just want to make sure i get the best RFTs available which will minimize any tramlining.
