Hi hope you don't mind me asking for help on my first post. I have a non starting 118D. 2010 N47 engine. Engine tries to start after much cranking, then seems to lock up and stop, but wont start. Originally thought the timing chain snapped as this drives the high pressure pump, but cams are turning and sounds like it has compression, so do not think it is that. Getting low fuel pressure code 4b90. Tried a new rail pressure sensor today and still the same, never that easy is it. Definitely seems like a fuel pressure problem, only about 12bar on cranking gradually rising to about 60bar then starts to fire then stops, target pressure is about 400bar. Connected air line to the disconnected fuel pressure sensor and pressure went up, so that seems to be working, but no pressure in the rail. Disconnected fuel filter and fuel flows out, but only while cranking, not just with the ignition on, not sure if this is normal as cannot hear the fuel tank pump prime when ignition switched on. About 7bar pressure out of the filter. Looking like high pressure fuel pump to me, although did not see any metal particles in the filter. Anyone any ideas before i condemn the fuel pump and injectors. Please help. Thank you

It could be to start with hpfp 1 or more injectors leaking or DDE may have a problem if it been remapped wrong

If it's the dde we can test it to make sure it's working

Ok, thanks for the reply, tested injectors and non leaking off excessively, unless they are leaking from the nozzles which may explain the locking up when cranking. I am going to try blanking each injector to check. Also going to change the fuel rail as there is another sensor at the back which i believe is the regulator. Failing that will try and do a pressure test directly from the HP pump. There is virtually no fuel pressure reading when it is cranking. I will have another play about with it and might take you up with your offer and get ecu checked. Cheers

I would replace the HPFP before you fill the lines wo th swarf.

Hi new here, I'm currently experiencing the same problem with little to no fuel pressure from the fuel rail with my BMW 118d n47. I have checked the fuel supply from the fuel pump at the rear of the car (under the rear seats) and fuel seems to flow well while cranking the engine over, so the problem with mine seems to be between the Hp pump and the fuel rail with very little to no fuel coming out of the injector pipes and the tank is almost full of diesel.
Would anyone know the best cause to this happening and a cure ?
Pretty desperate to fix my poor bmw.
Thank you, any help appreciated.

Is the fuel also flowing well out of the heater/filter under the car?
