Just had a nosey there to see - Do you mean the blanking cap on the off side behind the kidneys? If so do you need to take the grill out to access it and unclip or remove airbox to get at it?
Yep. both sides are closed on the Mx40i. The drivers side is the intake cap. I put some wire mesh there instead and drilled some breathing holes in the other side to help with cooling.

I accessed it when spraying my grills. You should be able to use some long nose pliers through the grills with some patience.

Doing this and coding the ASD off means you'll be greeted with the lovely noise of the turbo spool :)
This is interesting, looking forward to get back to the car on the weekend and have a look whats what.
Is it just removing the cap on the intake one to get some turbo noises? Also what is the other side that you've drilled for cooling?
Sorry these might be bone questions, Ive never seen this part of the car so trying to understand it before I see it (which is frustrating me haha).
Helps with the air intake. Have a look at the diagram below. Don't expect to be blown away with the noise, it just makes it audible as it is near silent from stock.

Still not quite sure why it's covered in the first place. That whole section leads to the blocked intake.

I'm not certain on this one, the mesh you have put in is a good idea, but surely it still leaves you very open to all sort of water and crap making it's way in? This cap is left open in Australia and warmer climates (from my understanding) but here with water on the roads for 80% of the year, is it a good idea?

who knows, i guess you'd be very unlucky for anything to happen because of it, just dont point your jet washer anywhere near it! ;) sure BMW wouldn't look to kindly on any issue caused by removing parts or drilling holes :)
People drive CSL's in the rain...just don't drive through a bonnet height flood!

Thanks for that! I read that removing the foam in the bottom of the air box helps with noise but i think thats there to trap moisture so not sure i want to do that.
What is the cap on the n/s then thats has had holes drilled in it?

The foam is to reduce the intake noise, more than likely due to the short intake on the B58 bmw thought it was required to keep the volume down.

Don't have pets but a cheap mod to stop the boot floor from bubbling gets bits in it.
