Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. Help Needed.
I managed to source an auto dimming rear view mirror from Lee at Quarrymotors, very nice chap, but after searching high and low on he web I cannot find information regarding the electrical connections. I understand that four extra wires have to be fitted in the loom between the mirror and terminal block behind the front light cluster but any links on forums I have found for the information are dead.
Has anyone upgraded their mirror and if so give me the information required. I can buy a retro fit harness for £18 but for the sake of four wires ?.
Thanks in advance.

Come on Marco. it will take you five minutes to clip the rear surround off your mirror.

I had a relay fault, I remember changing it and noticing that the auto-dim mirror and auto wipers were on the same one. Does the auto dimming mirror not need the rain wipe sensor fitted? That has a different stalk on the wheel too. Sounds like a faff.

Looks like it could be plug and play?

Re: Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. Help Needed.
All the controls for the mirror are electronic and mounted in the mirror housing along with the receiver for the alarm system. The relay could just be for power but other than an extra few wires nothing else has to be fitted and no coding is required.
I might try my dealer and see if they will print off the wiring diagram for me. If not I will buy the harness and do a "How To" with photos and post it on the forum.
The mirrors are about £400 to buy new from Bmw, £34 from Quarrymotors.

If you get this sorted, then please post it up. I'd be very interested also!Blackbmw120d wrote:They were the links I was using but the links to the PDFs in the posts are dead.marco_polo wrote:http://www.babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=13670

Re: Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. Help Needed.
I will just order the harness tomorrow and at least then it will be a straight swap with no problems. I don't want to damage any of the cars canbus or alarm system doing this.
I know a couple of members have done this mod in the past so hopefully they will see the thread and post some information up.

Have you PM'd Smithy120d Graeme? He's ace at electrical retrofits.

Is this the first time ever Mark has not been able to supply the answer
.
Plan no2 . After reading the description of the retrofit harness from Bmw, the instructions are not included and have to be printed off by the dealer so a quick phone call they should be able to email them to me

I now have the full retro fit instructions and wiring diagrams.
I will update the thread when I have time to fit the mirror.

Re: Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. Help Needed.
The mirror had its first test last night and it work perfectly.
At a total inclusive cost of £36 this must be the cheapest mod I have done so far. If I had bought the mirror new from Bmw it would have cost £400 so a massive thank you to Lee at Quarrymotors for his excellent service.

Re: Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. Help Needed.
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a autodimming mirror off ebay, but I'm getting a little confused with the wiring, when I look at the wiring diagrams for the retrofit cable.
So... the mirror that I got from ebay has the 10-pin connector, but it has a lot more wires than I was expecting... and certainly more than appear on the wiring diagram in the previous posts:

I count 10 wires going from the 10 pin housing to the electrochromatic mirror that I bought on ebay. However, the retrofit cable only has 5 wires going to the 10 pin housing. Does this sound right? Do the other 5 wires not serve a purpose?
I had a quick look at the wires going to my current, non-dipping mirror and found that there were four wires coming from the overhead control panel to the 10 pin housing and then five coming from the 10 pin housing to the mirror (which looks similar to what the posted wiring diagrams show)
Can anyone shed any light on this? Anyone carried out the retrofit? Blackbmw120d?
