Paddle shift retrofit

Post by jordan » Mon Aug 07, 2017 10:13 pm

Hi,im looking to get paddle shift retrofitted to my 2012 f21 116i, i believe it needs a wire run from (A83*2B pin 3) on the back of the slip ring to (A173*7B pin 5) on the FEM module and also some coding to switch between 205 to 2TB. not sure what else it may need.

just wondering if this can be done and if so, could you could give me a rough idea of the price if i supply the new wheel with paddles.

also where are you based?

cheers,
jordan.

I'm based in Gateshead.

Do you want it fitting or just coding?

Fitted, I'd screw it up if I tried.

Hi, sorry to mess you about, but I'd only need it coded.

checked the FEM module today and the wire is already run from pin 5 to the slip ring for the paddles, I can fit the wheel myself.

Hi - newbie on the forum!

Just chipped in a B8 RS4 for a sweet little F21 120D MSport - minus paddle shift. (2016 plate)
I’m going to miss the crazy Audi, but relish in the economy and +20mpg whilst my new job has me doing 20k miles per year.

I am going to miss the paddle shift at some point. Although the point and press nature of the F21 is fine, there’s still a nagging need within me to keep my hands on the wheel having come from M3’s 4’s and the RS.

How do I even begin to know if I can do this?

What’s needed - where from - where do I look? What’s the FEM and where do I start looking? and how can Wibbles code it remotely..... :D

Help me guys!

you'll need either a new steering wheel or the parts to modify your current wheel.

wiring to the FEM, (located in the passenger footwell), may already be in place but is easy to add.

Coding remotely is a simple process and just requires a windows laptop with a strong wifi signal while sat in the car and a coding cable. No large software downloads are required on your PC.

I have a newer style steering wheel in stock with paddles and cruise control but no airbag.

As long as your wheel is the same type, it would be an easy retrofit.

Wibbles you are clearly my man for this task.

Pics of wheel you have?

Car is F20 not F21 (doh - 5 door - wikipedia is NOT correct!)

I’ll have a dig around in the footwell for the FEM (what is that? Something Something Module?) edit - Front Electric Module = FEM. I’m learning BMW, was fluent in Audi.

Can you PM me some ‘typical’ costs to help me make this happen? Plus I don’t have Cruise, so I’m guessing my SW centre with Limit only will swap out too on your SW?

As an aside and still in RS withdrawal mode, the 120D is about 85% of the RS4 at speeds up to around 60mph, after that the RS would change into 3rd and redline at 8k for the next 4 gears and howl off into the distance. I’ll miss that, but not the 20mpg. :D

Cheers

Oh and then there’s the $500+ road tax.....per year.

I have an airbag on the way for this wheel.

Comes with cruise control if you want it activated.

Cost is £499 fitted & coded with the Airbag.Image
