Creaky door

Post by H7ayd » Thu Sep 05, 2013 7:08 pm

Hi All

Anyone got a remedy for creaky doors? I think it's the rubber seals around the doors.

Cheers

'gummi pflege' seems to be the thing - I plan to order some for myself.

In my experience gummi pflege is only a temporary fix, and not a very good one at that and leaves an awful smear on the door shuts. I believe BMW have an official fix for this by applying 3M Teflon tape to the door shut contact points.

Mine are not creaking at the moment. However, I have noticed when I top the Cquartz protection up with Reload it makes the rubber door seals creak for a week or so afterwards. This has happened every time I have topped up the Reload. I must spray it on a more carefully next time.

Just wondering OP if your creaks have coincided with detailing the car?

I think it is related. Yesterday when it was raining and the seals were wet they didn't creak.

Creaky door

Post by 118ddk » Sat Sep 07, 2013 2:12 pm

Guys. The problem is the Tiny space between the two felts at the top.
I apply gummipflege with a q tip, so far it has lasted 6 months.

Put some lube in there

So is gummi pflege still the go for this? Mine has started to creak and squeak as well, quite annoying! Tempted to take it to the dealer but would rather a quick fix myself! It's due for its 12 month check in July so I guess if it's still going on I'll ask them about it then.
I've heard some use Autoglym rubber and vinyl care but I've read this contains silicone which is a no no apparently?

My car started this up after I used some quick detailer (Chemical Guys) between waxes. I then used Gummi-pfledge but this only made mine worse - to be certain I re-used it on one side of the car only and sure enough the creaking was incessant.

I then cleaned all the rubbers down with warm water and car wash, dried with a microfibre towel, repeated this thrice and, while a lot better, it persisted. I then used Dri-lube on the felts (there is conjecture as to whether is will damage rubber seals long-term) and it stopped immediately. I had to repeat the application a couple of times a week apart but it's been nice and quiet for a good month now.

Yep this is the same as mine sounds like creaky doors but if you drop all the windows a couple of mm it stops.

I have some trim stuff on the felts as above but it only last about 10-14 days and then I have to repeat.

So just to be clear, you apply the gummi pflege where the red line on the picture is and not where the blue lines are?
