2011 E82 135i

Post by Major_Sarcasm »

Hello all

Just sharing my most recent purchase; 2011 (manual) LCI 135i N55 M Sport. Needs a little bit of tidying (as the paint isn't amazing) and I have a few plans for mods, so I'll keep this thread updated as I go.

The car has a lot of the best options from the factory except the iDrive. I wasn't too worried about this as I'll be fitting an Android unit soon. I've found a unit that plugs directly into the factory wiring (the quadlock plugs directly in the back, rather than via an ISO patch) and includes a lot of canbus integration. I did consider the units that sit on top of the dash, but they seem too high to me and would seem to be a hazard at night, being right in your eyeline. More later on this.

Standard equipment:
  • Xenons
  • Heated electric memory seats
  • Heated folding mirrors (now coded to fold on lock)
  • High beam assistant (which works surprisingly well!)
  • Electric sunroof
  • Auto lights and wipers
  • Front and rear PDC
  • Cruise control

One of the first things I'm going to do is ditch the stripes! They look better in the photos than they do in the flesh (and they're a little tatty). They'll be coming off and the paint getting a stage one polish hopefully next weekend.

I've already ordered a re-trimmed steering wheel from Royal Steering Wheels and I'll put a photo up when I receive it in a couple of weeks. The current wheel is a bit weathered and I'm using the opportunity to get RSW to do something very nice.

More soon...

Cleaned and fed the front seats today with Autoglym as there were a few (what looked like) paint stains on them. They also looked and felt really dry.

They didn't scrub up too badly. I'll get on and do the rears at some point. The way the seats sucked up the leather balm, I'm betting they'd not been touched in ages!

Excellent purchase there MS.

Good shout ditching the stripes as it makes the car look weird shaped, the coupe has fantastic lines that need no accentuating.

Seats have come up very nice, might have to try that myself.

Look forward to seeing more pics of this beauty being cared for and subtly modded in the future.

Thanks Twenny. The seats came up better than I thought they would. Good stuff the Autoglym leather cleaner.

Look forward to more info on the android unit!

I'm not a fan of the 'top of the dash' options either :)

Looks nice that. The coupe is such a good looking little thing.

Agree re the stripes; they’re a bit naff.

Is it a double din unit that you’re fitting? Made a massive difference to my other half’s E87 and was pretty easy to do.

Yes, double din. I searched for a while through the usual fair, Eonon, Xtrons, etc., but they all seem to be patched into the BMW loom rather than a direct plug in. The one I've found connects directly via the quadlock and has some level of canbus integration. Whether this matters (or is better) is arguable, but it seems to be a decent solution and the company chap that I've been speaking to is very helpful.

Fitted my LED indicators a few days ago. Canbus error free, just coded out the voltage monitoring to stop the wee strobe on startup. I think they look much nicer than the old filament bulbs:

Also received my Royal Steering Wheels re-trimmed wheel. Hopefully fitting that tomorrow, as long as it's not hammering down like it's been the last few days...

Strong colour choice, but I wanted to add a splash of colour to the interior, plus I might see if I can source some of the 1M trims with the orange stitching, so it'll match nicely.

The workmanship is absolutely top-notch, really can't recommend them enough. Can't wait to get it fitted and see what it feels like to use in anger.

The wheel was supplied on an exchange basis, so I send my old rim back to them for the next refurb customer.

Like the orange stitching in the wheel.

Royal do some fab work. My wheel from them is the favourite thing that I’ve done to my car.

It's very stable and you can put your phone in it one handed when you get the knack of it.
