DervTech remote tuning review

Post by Pellepirat »

Finally I have tuned my car with DervTech remote tuning. M140 -18 ( built March )

I pay through PayPal and receive an e-mail with software and instructions. Easy to understand, read file from Ecu took just couple of seconds. I send file to DervTech and receive a tuned file. Write back the tuned file took about 5-7 minutes.

It´s a procedure with lights off, seatbelt, battery off etc (you get a understandable description) Then it’s time to fire up the engine. I got a Yellow light warning, I remove it in the program by “clear codes” Chris told me that it will go away after few ignition cycles. I have the prg running so I remove it.

The big benefits are you can read in and out tune /stock whenever you want. You keep the program and original file/tuned file. I will not leave my car for service with tuning for example. I don’t know exactly hp gains, I guess 440 hp..it doesn’t matter for me. 5-10-15 hp up or down is the same.

I have drive with Bluespark before in all settings, but this is in another league. The car pulls like crazy! I have comfort, Eco pro as standard and full effect in sport/sport+. No extra pops and bangs. I have MPE with BCS pipe (on its way) so it pops quite much.

I have still winter tires on my car..so I can´t go to fast..but I defiantly feel the beast

Thx to Chris and James for great support!

I think I got that cable. The same as Per had for his Remote Tune?

Thanks Chris and keep exploring the future mods Of the B58 engine! (The new Supra will be insane with your tuning)

One thing I notice, when you are driving in eco pro (not often). You have to press the pedal quite “hard” to accelerate. I don’t use eco much but I have tried it.

With tuning it similar in comfort, I have to press the accelerator more now than before. It´s not a bad thing but it was a big change. It´s like a new car to drive.. the character have change a bit.

We don’t have winter (snow) but it´s law in Sweden to have winter tires. Its dry and +4 -5 degrees, typical weather also in England I guess. I have Bridgestone Blizzak LM001 are the softest tyre…so therefore I can’t push the car to much...the rear is "loose".

Just some more info when I have it in mind :)

Sounds very convenient, especially being able to remove it back to stock whenever you want for service/warranty work etc.

Does your software need admin rights on a laptop to work? I only have a work laptop without admin rights.

Not sure, maybe some “computer gay” can answer. You will get link to download the program (IE don’t work for me) I have to use Chrome. The file/program is ZIP file, so no install, just run the file, so I don’t think you will have any problems. But someone else have also give feedback in this case.

Sounds promising then if you don't need to install anything, usually if it's just a zip file with the .exe it works fine.

That's right - you shouldn't need admin rights I wouldn't think; also with the cable being ENET there is no driver to install.

We can adjust this if you want - but in the early days of development we found the pedal to 'lively' (don't know how well that translates) and to make the car earlier / more controllable a softer throttle map was necessary.

Thanks

An exe file will require admin rights to install if the laptop is locked down and you're not part of the admin group.

Yes, but it sounds like the exe isn't an installer, just the actual program to run. In which case those type of things work fine on my laptop.

Anyway, worst case I have to carry my desktop PC out to the garage with a long extension lead :D

All .exe files are executable files which in turn is a program, that will require admin rights. You'll have some sort of interface to do the tune.

If you do that, please be careful with the power... it’ll not end well if you pull the power cord out half way through programming... the tool has full recovery options but don’t chance it!

On the development list is a mobile flashing app via Bluetooth, but it’s a ways off yet.
