Post by nlrbmw » Sat May 20, 2017 3:07 pm

Anyone had a Quaife LSD fitted to their 140? Or thinking of doing so?

I think most regulars have fitted an LSD by now. Try Litchfield for a decent price.

Litchfield or Birds (birdsauto.com).

I have always used birds because Kevin there has been very helpful. And they are the development partner to Quaife for BMW diffs.

If you have a friendly machine shop, like I do, and are handy with spanners, you can do it yourself for around £1200 all in. Your car will be off the road whilst the machining is done, unless you buy another diff as a spare.

Could be tempted with a very good price, although I'm not convinced I really need one...

Could be tempted in a group buy dependant on cost and location for fitting.....

Mainly because I've never driven one with it... other than that I don't do track days, usually go on public roads for enjoyment, therefore I'm unsure I'd notice a difference that warrants £2.5k for an LSD in a car that'll be sold in 2,5-3 years.

Fair enough......

From my view......although I track my car, I find the LSD most effective when driving on normal roads, especially when wet. It makes the intrusion from TC/DSC happen far less often, which makes driving so much more enjoyable. More forward progress with less drama......and when the back end does step out, it is so much more predictable than an open diff. IMO, a LSD should be standard on this type of car.
