DC11's 130i LE

Post by DC11 » Tue Oct 17, 2017 6:55 pm

I've finally decided to stop procrastinating and begin a journal for my 130i LE. I've owned it for around 10 months now, so in a similar fashion to my previous thread, i'll begin retrospectively and eventually catch up to where i'm at now. Here goes...

Backstory - My previous E87 130i M Sport (FL)

I previously owned the above 130i which I slowly but surely threw the BMW Performance catalogue at; Intake, Exhaust, Brakes, Interior, it had it all. Then, in a moment of madness (i'd just got engaged), I decided to sell it. And... Buy a Citroen Nemo van!

Honestly, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

It sold almost instantly to a forum member and, i'm happy to say, is still being cherished and improved upon to this day. For anybody interested, my journal for it can be viewed here: http://babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=75016

As i'm sure you can imagine, I quickly realised 'Van Life' wasn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure I could throw a muddy MTB in the back of it and park it amongst the door dingers in a supermarket car park, but ultimately, it was naff.

The hunt for another 130i was on...

I had always fancied an LE

During my E87 ownership I often thought that the LE was the ultimate 130i. Yes, they have chrome window trim, and yes, they're not fully-loaded... But that 3 door Carbon Black/Lemon combo is hard to beat!

Whilst scrolling through the '130i Hunters Unite' thread one evening, a forum member posted that they were thinking of selling their LE. A PM was sent and the following images made their way over to me...

The photos above show it in a very favourable light but, as the physical viewing would reveal, it was far from perfect. The wheels were corroded, the front end was completely stone chipped, the rear bumper had a couple of small dinks and the driver's bolster had seen better days too. Cosmetically, it was tired.

However, with a full BMW service history and having spent its entire life covered by an extended BMW warranty, it was mechanically tip-top. A price was agreed and I had another 130i. 8)

Let the project begin...

Is that the LE that belonged to the forum member in Northumberland? Can't remember who it was now

I love that colour combo

Looking forward to reading about your progress with it

Loved your old 130. Had a lot of what I'd like to have on mine lavished on it if only I had the money
Indeed a strange decision to sell up for a van was it work related? I'm currently running both and if I could fit my job as a courier into my 130 then the Renault Master would be history.

Look forward to the story.

No, this one was from Lancashire. I'm the 4th owner (I think) but all previous owners have been forum members.

No, not work related. The logic was that a van would be good for chucking my MTB in over winter, which it was. The problem is that for the other 95% of the time I was driving round in an empty, bouncy, noisy freezer.

Interior Deep Clean

The first job on my long list was to give the entire interior a thoroughly good clean. My process was as follows:

• Remove all seats
• Vacuum carpets, consoles, dash, door cards and head lining
• Clean glass with hot, soapy water
• Clean plastics with ValetPRO APC
• Dress plastics with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care
• Clean glass with Autoglym Car Glass Polish
• Spray carpets with Autoglym Autofresh

Not the most exciting photos, but they give you an idea of the effort that went into the clean.
