BMW F20 Upgrade

Post by AmanSK5 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 1:06 pm

Hey everyone, first post here. I've recently purchased a BMW 1 Series 2014 M. It's a beautiful car and a real upgrade from my 2003 Polo 1.2. One thing that annoys me however is that it does not have the navigation option. I think this means my head unit is not a CIC, CCC or NBT unit as it doesn't have that feature. Now I might be wrong but from my understanding of reading various posts and articles, if you do not have the navigation option you can't really do most code mods. My question is this. Can I still do some code mods? I've purchased a ENET cable and found a guide saying I should follow these instructions to get enhanced bluetooth so that I can stream music from my iPhone to my car without any cables.

Link to the guide I found: http://chrisbryson.me.uk/enable-enhance ... es-f20f21/

For those who have done this on their f20, will this still work? And if so what other mods can you do on an f20 without the navigation feature.

I went onto: https://www.bmwvin.com and all the options with the exception of 2 start with S and end in A. Does this change anything?

Many thanks in advance :)

I remember feeling like this when I first got my F20!

Your HU will be either HU_ENTRY or HU_ENTRYNAV (without nav). If you want nav you can retrofit it for around £200. See here: viewtopic.php?t=104224

Yes you can code even without nav. Search for a F20 cheat sheet for some ideas or check out YouTube. Some of the things I’ve done is code enhanced Bluetooth, digital speedo, sport dials, make the car beep when you lock it and activated Siri using the voice control button on the steering wheel.

As your car is 2014 I think you might be able to code enhanced Bluetooth straightaway but it depends on whether you have a combox. Your HU might have it already or you might have one in the boot. If you don’t have either then you would need to buy HU_ENTRYNAV as this has the combox built in.

To code you will need to download e-sys and make sure you read some guides beforehand so you know what to do. It’s pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it but obviously it’s at your own risk. If you don’t trust yourself or aren’t confident then PM Wibbles who can do it remotely for a fee.

Re: the VIN mine is the same with the S and A, I don’t think they make a difference.

Hi thanks for your reply! So i've looked around on google to see where this combox is. I found it in the boot above the battery. (I think this might be the box).https://imgur.com/a/4wgJosB

With regards to the HU (Head unit I guess?), how can I find out what I have. Here's an image of the head unit: https://imgur.com/a/77WTts4

Many thanks!

Yes that’s the combox, the silver box in the top left. That means you can code enhanced Bluetooth straightaway. You now don’t need to worry about what head unit you have but if you still want to know for future reference then e-sys will tell you once you’ve plugged your car in.

No worries. You’re best off searching google TBH as it will give you a chance to read about it in more detail at the same time. I downloaded it a while back so no longer have the link I used. Bear in mind there are lots of different versions due to updates too. If you still have difficulty then ask again as others might be able to help.

You have the hu_entry unit with combox so you can code enhanced Bluetooth but you won’t get things like working sports gauges or splash screen etc.if you do want to go down the retrofit route extra wiring work will be required to get the mic,Bluetooth antenna and armrest usb working.
