Just hit 80k on the clock, hasn't been changed at all so wondering should I get it done? Planning on doing the air filter at the same time.

Should I do it now without delay or is there some specific milage it should be done at?

Could you put the 'new gen' breather on an '05?
Yes definitely. I believe it was a revision.

My guess would be item 11. The description for the rest of the items sound like they are the housing (which you shouldn't need to change unless damaged). Maybe change the seals too at the most.

It's like when changing an oil filter you only change the filter not the housing too. Just my guess tho.

Edit:
After coming across this I'm not sure it's item 11.

If it's not 11 it could be item 15.

i did think that but there is no mention of just the filter, so would there be a filter that needs replacing or is it item 15 the bit that need replacing?

heres a "How to"

right i think i have got my head around it, the old original one is the sponge style filter, but over on bimmerforums they say not to replace with this style but to update it to the new Vortex oil separator like in the comparison photo which would be whats on bmminiparts diagram.

the sponge filter would be cheaper but the Vortex style would be more reliable & perform much much better.
