My bolster is pretty worn too (leather) - 2008 57 plate with 19k on the clock. It never crossed my mind to see about it as I'd have thought they'd put it down to wear and tear.

Hi all

Did you get this resolved?

I have an 08 123d, 26k, with some sort of fake leather trim and it's worn / ripped on the drivers side bolster. I think the issue is the seat belt rubs exactly at the point its worn through.

I'd love to hear from anyone else with similar issues before I approach BMW about it.

A pain but sliding the seat back before getting out the car will stop you rubbing the bolster, I do this each time and don't rub the seat. I take it your talking the vertical bolster.

Thanks for all your input guys, having looked closer I'm sure the wear is down the the seat belt rubbing as it is exactly at that point.

Hi Chester, I will try it. It is the vertical bolster, yes.

Hello everybody, Although, having scanned the car again two different error codes had emerged, it was also noted the car was misfiring between 1800 -2200 rpm. So a little bewildered they reset the car again and test drove it again, this time one of the two faults had replicated itself, this being the EGR valve. With this the garage got to work removing and checking the EGR valve. It was discovered the valve was heavily sooted up, causing it to stick open. They cleaned the valve and freed it up and gave the induction manifold a good clean.

My car goes back into the dealers soon with the bolster issue. Been in once and they said it's wear but now complained to BMW who have issued me with a complaints number I've given to the dealer. Not having wear and tear on a car under two years old and at 18k now. My 3 series had 50k and looked far better.

Hi Jamie

Can I ask the dealer you used? I went to mine about an hour ago and got told it's normal wear and tear!

Granted I'm a fairly well built chap at 6ft and over 15 stone, I use the car every day and I often wear jeans with a belt but the guy told me my belt must have caught it. It's plain leather, not diamond encrusted or studded, surely everyone wears a belt and the car should be designed with materials to withstand people getting in and out on a regular basis? He also mentioned it's because the bolster sticks out a lot...so that means the design is wrong?

Perhaps you can PM me a copy of the letter you sent so I could tailor it and use it?

PM sent mate. There's no letter only a process of complaining vis BMW. Whether it does any good, I'll see.

Cheers
Jamie

Good luck with this, I think it must come down to dealer discretion.

I bought my car last Oct as an AUC, just had the drivers seat cover (lemon leather) and foam replaced under warrenty with no quibbles (18k, 57plate).

Hope you can get yours sorted too.
